EXECUTIVE PROTECTION

Do you need an Executive Protection Program?
Having the knowledge to differentiate EP agent from a Security Guard as a client is a must.

Back to Main
Executive Protection (EP), also known as Close Personal Protection or Body-guarding, refers to security measures taken to ensure the safety of VIP's or other individuals who may be exposed to elevated personal risk because of their employment, celebrity status, wealth, associations or geographical location.

Executive protection on its own is a highly specialized field within the private security industry. Elite executive protection professionals will have specialized training in Close/Personal Protection, Precision-Tactical Driving, First Aid-CPR-TECC, Advance Defensive Tactics, and Small Arms Marksmanship.

The term Executive Protection was coined in the 1970s by the United States Secret Service when they created the Executive Protection Service to guard visiting foreign dignitaries.

In the United States, executive protection services are regulated at the state level and in most cases require licensing, insurance, training and a separate concealed carry permit in most states. Also, The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (aka HR-218) does NOT serve as a license for off-duty law enforcement officers to provide executive protective services. Hiring unlicensed, uninsured protection services, including those offered by off-duty law enforcement officers, creates direct liability for the client, in this case, the corporation.

Protective measures may include Estate Security Agents, Residential Security Systems, Armored Vehicles and, Vehicle Scramble Logistics-Plans, Mail Screening, Private Jet and Travel Management, Background Checks for special employees, and other precautions.

The executive protection team may also provide security for immediate and/or extended family members to prevent kidnapping and extortion. Those are some of the responsibilities that carry out EP agents which are a significant differentiator between the protection agent and security guard. The security guard's basic role is to observe and report among other general tasks..
